At Tarsus University Turkish Teaching Application and Research Center (TARSUS TÖMER), teaching Turkish as a foreign language is conducted based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). An action-oriented approach and task-based language teaching methodology are adopted in the instructional process, aiming to enable students to use the language functionally and communicatively in real-life contexts. Accordingly, the instructional model is based on the holistic development of four fundamental language skills, addressing grammar in context, and reinforcing learning through cultural interaction.
In the process of teaching Turkish as a foreign language, activities and practices aimed at developing students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills are incorporated. Students are provided with opportunities to experience the language used in daily life and academic settings.
The fundamental language structures of Turkish are taught not in isolation from context, but through task-based activities and communicative practices. Grammar instruction is addressed with a meaning- and usage-based approach.
To expand students' vocabulary, high-frequency words used in daily life, fixed expressions, and essential vocabulary required in academic environments are taught.
To enhance students' writing skills, practices involving pre-writing, drafting, and post-writing stages are included. Written expression tasks are conducted through a task-based approach.
To enable students to communicate effectively in social and academic contexts, prepared and spontaneous speech, presentation, discussion, and listening activities are conducted.
The objective is to help students improve their reading and comprehension skills through various text genres. Reading activities are structured in alignment with CEFR learning outcomes.
Students are encouraged to use the language within its cultural context through activities related to Turkish culture, history, and social life.
Students' language progress is monitored through written and oral examinations, performance tasks, presentations, and process-based evaluation tools. The assessment process is carried out based on CEFR criteria.
